Welcome to ABetterTrafficSchool.com

Thank you for visiting ABetterTrafficSchool.com. Today I want to mention what might sound like a broken record warning, but it has to do with texting and driving. You would think that by now, people would get the message that it’s illegal and just plain stupid to text while driving. But you’d be incorrect.

According to the insurance company, State Farm at their site (statefarm.com), the National Safety Council figures that there are roughly 200,000 crashes that are caused by texting drivers every year!

While it is beyond the scope of this post to debate what should be done or what is being done to reduce these dangerous situations, we do have a couple of ideas of what you can personally do if you find yourself being distracted or tempted to text while driving.

First of all, you can completely turn off your phone. Period. Put it away, in the glove box or somewhere else out of reach. Try to remember that there is nothing – NOTHING – so important that it cannot wait until you stop and take a “text break.”

Even if someone is trying to get in touch with you about an urgent matter, nothing is that urgent that it cannot wait for you to stop.

There are also apps that you can download to disallow texting while driving.

Put yourself in the shoes of people who have been driving since before the advent of instant messaging and texting. However did they get from point A to point B without hearing some urgent news? They just did.

And you can too! Enjoy the ride, and drive safely!
